Der Sänger, Songschreiber und Gitarrist JON DEE GRAHAM ist ein waschechter Texaner mit weitreichender und besonderer Historie. Egal ob er solo/akustisch auftritt oder in seinem bewährten Quartett den elektrischen Rock'n'Roller gibt, ob er im Studio selber aufnimmt oder als Gastmusiker für befreundete Kollegen spielt, Graham gibt stets alles und das mit voller Leidenschaft. Nicht ohne Grund gilt das Unikum mit der tiefen Raspelstimme als eine zentrale Figur in der Austin Community und wird seit vielen Jahren mit Auszeichnungen und Trophäen nur so überschüttet, vom Austin Chronicle bis zum Rolling Stone abgefeiert und während der diesjährigen South By Southwest Music Conference zum "Musician of the Year" gekürt! Full ist sein brandneues, insgesamt 5. Soloalbum und es erfüllt alle Erwartungen, die man an diesen Mann noch stellen kann, aufs Vortrefflichste!

Seit Mitte der 80er Jahre ist der Name Jon Dee Graham in Gitarrenrock- und Roots-Kreisen ein fester Begriff. Als Mitglied der legendären True Believers begann er damals seine bis auf den heutigen Tag andauernde Zusammenarbeit mit Alejandro Escovedo, einer weiteren Americana-Ikone in Austin. Die John Doe Band, mit Calvin Russell in Europa, Michelle Shocked, Dan Stuart und Trish Murphy, Country Music mit Kelly Willis, zig weitere Studiojobs von den Gourds über die Silos, Michael Hall und Reckless Kelly bis zu Ray Wylie Hubbard und Eliza Gilkyson sind nur die wichtigsten Stationen auf dem Weg zu einem wirklich Großen. Nebenbei unterstützt er zahlreiche unbekannte Acts und neue Interpreten, produziert hier und musiziert da. Ja, und dann gibt's natürlich noch die legendären Resentments - sein Rock'n'Roll-Baby, seine "Hobbytruppe" mit Stephen Bruton, Scrappy Jud Newcomb, Bruce Hughes und John Chipman, mit der er regelmäßig auftritt und die bereits drei viel beachtete Blue Rose-Veröffentlichungen auf dem Markt hat!

JDG hat also wirklich viel erlebt und diese Erfahrungen schlagen sich oft in seinen Songs nieder, so auch auf Full: nachdenkliche, bedeutsame Texte mit autobiografischem Charakter findet man quer durch das gesamte Album. Selten hat er in seinen Songs soviel über sich reflektiert: Beziehungen, Freundschaften, Veränderungen, neue Herausforderungen, das schlichte Überleben. Auch das seines Sohnes Willie, der an einer seltenen Knochenkrankheit leidet und dem der Erlös des außergewöhnlichen Tributwerks Big Sweet Life - mit Graham-Material in Interpretationen vieler seiner Kollegen - zugute kommt. Ein wenig Hoffnung inmitten eines sehr unebenen Lebens, das aber gerade deswegen die wertvollen Bodenschätze für immer wieder erstklassiges und jederzeit ehrliches, authentisches Songmaterial liefert. Anders als auf den letzten beiden CDs Hooray For The Moon (02) und The Great Battle (04) kommt Graham auf Full völlig ohne Covernummern aus. Er bietet uns 12 frische Eigenkompositionen, die an individueller Stärke, Prägnanz und Bildhaftigkeit kaum zu übertreffen sind. Der attraktive Midtempo-Opener "Jubilee" sorgt für eine stimmungsvolle Ouverture, das langsam schleichende "Swept Away" geht direkt unter die Haut und "Something Wonderful" groovt gefährlich mit seinem pulsierenden Bass und den verschachtelten elektrischen Gitarren, wird an Elektrizität und Dynamik aber noch vom riffigen "Bonaparte" getoppt. Dazu stellen der leichtgängige Folk Rock von "Amsterdam", das solo-akustische Lamento von "O Dearest One" und die bedächtige Ballade "Remain" einen interessanten Kontrast dar, das Slide Guitar-lastige "Holes" sowie "Tie A Knot", das Stück mit den längsten Gitarrensoli, repräsentieren dagegen mehr die Blues-Seite von JDG. "Beloved Garden" zum Abschluss bereichert den Graham-Songkatalog um eine weitere kapitale Hymne mit Gänsehautgarantie!

All das hat der Meister zusammen mit seiner tollen Band und wenigen Gastmusikern an nur drei Tagen im Januar 2006 aufgenommen. In der Wahl seiner Begleiter geht Jon Dee Graham grundsätzlich kein Risiko ein, es handelt sich stets um bekannte Namen der Szene: Gitarrist Mike Hardwick, Bassist Andrew Duplantis, der parallel bei Son Volt spielt und Resentments-Drummer John Chipman. In weiteren Rollen hören wir Jud Newcomb, Bruce Hughes und Produzent Mike Stewart. Warum sollte er bei solch bewährter Qualität und Professionalität auch jemals etwas ändern?!
Singer, songwriter and guitarist JON DEE GRAHAM is a native Texan with a deep, eclectic musical history. The writer Don Henry Ford Jr. describes Jon Dee Graham as "unvarnished, raw and gritty." He can sing soft introspective songs or he can blow you out of your seat with pounding rock and roll. April, 2006 marks Graham's return to independence with the CD release of Full on Blue Rose Records, Graham's 5th solo release. He was voted "Musician of the Year" at the Austin Music Awards during the 2006 South By Southwest Music Conference.

Full was produced by Mike Stewart (Poi Dog Pondering) and features Andrew Duplantis (Son Volt) on bass, Michael Hardwick (Eliza Gilkyson) on guitars and John Chipman (Resentments) on drums. Many critics, such as Andy Langer (Esquire, News 8 Austin), are already praising Full, calling it Graham's best record yet.

Jon Dee Graham was born in Levelland, Texas, the second son of a high plains cotton farmer. When he was six years old, his family relocated to the town of Quemado, near the Mexican-Texas border, where he lived until he was 17, when he moved to Austin after his father went to the lonesome valley.

Graham toured with The Skunks and the guitar army The True Believers in the '80s and has gone on touring, writing, recording, and producing with artists such as John Hiatt, The Gourds, Patti Smyth, Darden Smith, Si mon Bonney, Ryan Hedgecock of Lone Justice, Michelle Shocked, John Doe, Exene Cervenka, Kelly Willis, Trish Murphy, Kacy Crowley, Calvin Russell, Lou Ann Barton and Dan Stuart of Green On Red, among others.

After living for almost a decade in Los Angeles with his ex-wife Sally Norvell (Congo Norvell) and his son Roy, Graham moved back to Austin in 1997. He is now married to a college professor in Austin, with whom he has another son, Willie, who recently was diagnosed with the rare bone disease Legg-Perthes. Some people hide what they are and the things they have done from the world. Jon Dee Graham isn't one of those. No, he opens his heart, mind and soul for all daring to peer inside. What you see won't be the prettiest picture in the world, but it'1I be the truth.
Jon Dee bears scars - the scars of a warrior caught in a world gone mad - the scars of a man that took a deep drink of life on the rough side of town and survived. He's made of stern stuft. In 2005, Graham found himself back on tour with ex-band member of The True Believers, Alejandro Escovedo, opening acoustically and playing electrically with AI, supporting Graham's EP, First Bear on the Moon. He ended 2005 touring solo acoustically in Europe and recording with John Cale for Escovedo's upcoming release.

Graham has settled into his own solo career as weil as a brilliant side project as a member of Austin's beloved The Resentments, featuring Graham, Stephen Bruton, Scrappy Jud Newcomb, Bruce Hughes, and John Chipman. Cracked, raspy, passionate and endearing, Graham's voice is his most recognizable trademark.
